Chokes for light dimmers

Phase angle controllers, such as light dimmers, require large amounts of series-mode suppression. Additional constraints are imposed by lower power domestic dimmers.
Specially optimised core materials are required, as in the Almag WD range, to overcome "flicker" problems at low load. The resulting reduction of dI/dT can also be used to increase the rise-time of professional stage and studio dimming equipment, to reduce cross-coupling into audio cables and to reduce lamp filament "singing".
Our standard dimmer choke range offers over 600 designs, used to suppress domestic dimmers through to very high rise-time, high current chokes for studio applications.
Optional bottom potting with epoxy resin aids cooling and simplifies choke mounting.
