Almag merges with Carnhill Transformers Ltd

From January 2004, Almag's Wound Component Division has merged with Carnhill Transformers Ltd at their St Ives, Cambridgeshire site. This is an exciting move for us, as it allows us to offer a much broader range of wound components by combining Carnhill's expertise in the audio and power transformer markets with Almag's experience of the lighting, emc and power conversion markets.

About Carnhill

The experience that Carnhill have gained from hundreds of designs over more than twenty years gives an in-depth understanding of the design and manufacturing processes for a wide variety of transformers used across a broad range of industries. This makes us particularly well equipped to work closely with our customers from the start of their design process, combining the most economical designs with the most efficient production methods to offer the lowest cost transformers that precisely meet their needs. This service includes the ability to manufacture to many individual country standards, including VDE, CSA, UL, TUV, GS, SEMKO and NEMKO, and membership of BSI allows us to adapt to the changing requirements of British and International standards as they evolve.

Choke data by e-mail

When a customer asked us why chokes are so much harder to find than resistors or capacitors, we knew that we could find a way to help. The answer is to realise that a choke designed for one application could just as well be used in a completely different part of the circuit. For instance, an ac differential emc choke can also be used as a dc output storage inductor, but we have to make extra data available to allow an informed choice to be made. So our e-mailable data now includes inductance figures with two levels of bias current (1x & 1.4x rated current) and switching frequencies for 20%, 30% & 40% pk-pk ripple current.
