SUMMARY
The WSS range offers economical chokes for higher switching frequencies from 150kHz to 260kHz, using the latest low loss sendust powder toroids, with inductance values and current ratings selected to match switching regulator chips from a variety of manufacturers.
The toroidal format gives lower flux-leakage than ferrite rod core or dumbell type chokes, for better emc performance, and a soft-saturation characteristic to maintain inductance in overload conditions. Various standard leadout formats are available.

Current ratings
All current ratings shown are dependant on the actual cooling conditions in the customer's installation. The powder cores used have a "soft saturation" which means that they do not have the magnetically limited current rating that applies to laminated or ferrite cored chokes. The current ratings shown are based on efficient convection cooling, with ambient temperatures of approximately 50 degrees C.

Inductance
The high saturation, distributed-gap powder toroids used give a predictable hold-up of inductance with superimposed dc or ac peak current bias. The inductances shown are the nominal values for low drive level, bridge measurement, with no suprimposed dc current and with the full rated dc current. Almag can supply inductance values at other dc current levels, including overload, on request.

Operating frequency
The operating frequency is limited mainly by core losses due to the ac ripple current. At 150kHz ripple currents should be no more than approximately 30% peak-peak of the rated current. At 260kHz ripple currents should be no more than approximately 20% peak-peak of the rated current. The chokes may operate at higher switching frequencies, provided that the ripple current is reduced accordingly.

Specifications and information contained within this data sheet are intended for guidance only. Whilst every effort has been made to ensure the accuracy of this information, no liability can be accepted for any errors contained herein. In all cases the customer should ensure that the chokes are thermally and electrically suitable for use within their particular equipment.
