High storage power chokes |
All of these high storage power choke ranges use Hi-Flux powder cores. These are made from a nickel-iron alloy, which gives a much better hold-up of inductance with dc bias current - for instance 125u Hi-Flux core has a similar hold-up to 60u iron powder. This allows the use of a higher permaebility core, to give approximately twice the inductance of a similarly sized iron powder core. The higher ripple flux density that results is offset by a lower core loss, to allow the chokes to be used up to 50kHz or 100kHz, depending on the application. Although of inherently higher cost, a smaller sized core can be used, minimising the price penalty, and reducing the choke size. |

| WH range | High energy storage chokes, with approximately twice the inductance of equivalent iron powder ranges. Multi-layer windings are used for optimum energy storage and low voltage drop. Used for compact SMPSU output chokes and emc chokes. |
| WHP range | PFC power factor correction chokes, similar to the WH range but with inductances optimised for pfc chokes operating to c50kHz. Multi-layer windings are used to give high energy storage, as choke self-capacitance is not a prime consideration in this frequency range. Used for compact low power and medium power pfc chokes. |
